What about antenna trackers? 5.8GHz?
#1
Hi there, folks.

I'm researching on the internet about long range FPV, and I currently own a Walksnail 5.8GHz video system. I'm wondering about antenna trackers, are they used for this kind of video system? I saw a guy mentioning on YouTube that this kind of hardware is mostly used for people on the 1.3GHz. Is that true?

More over, what are the most recommended/cool trackers compatible with Walksnail or other 5.8GHz systems, if any?

Thanks!

There are open source projects out there that will take your telemetry and feed it into a tracker for this purpose. I've been meaning to get myself one made. As far as I can tell, it should be very doable for less than $100.

The best open-source I've found was this one: https://github.com/zs6buj/AntTracker
Do you know of others?

Funny that I started this post thinking that the trackers worked solely by measuring signal strength on directional antennas, but it seems that in fact most of the trackers uses GPS vectors from coordinate and altitude telemetry. Quite clever.

I need to do research to get caught up. Still, it's mostly just 3D printed parts, a couple of servos, and a cheap mini computer.

I thought about trying one of these, but haven't had a need to get one as I'm not really going that far out on most occasions. Good antennas on the goggles have been good enough for me.
