What is the acceptable line between purloin and progress? The fr7 has been raved about and has an amazing community behind it. The design is ingenious and looks great as long as there's a gopro up front. It literally has the best pieces of many designs, can hold a huge lipo, and has plenty of build space. All this is to say that this frame has been at the top of my list and I already have many pieces to transplant... And then while searching cncdrones.com I decided to browse all the 7" frames and the multicopter builders epic and cinematic 7 popped up, and the hoopla when I first started fpv all came back. The FR7 is a better mb epic. But it's clear looking side by side that the design was somewhat stolen, and now I'm not sure that I can support it. It feels like those foreign illegal impulserc and geprc reproductions. I'm torn though because the frame seems outstanding.... Why didnt the community work with Richard to make the best and next evolution of the mb epic? This could've been such an amazing story.... But here I am trying to understand what is the acceptable line between purloin and progress...... Am I on the wrong side by picking the FR7? I'm not sure how to feel, and yes this is years later, but I'm now not sure what I should do morally.... Thoughts? • Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 21-Feb-2024, 04:50 PM (This post was last modified: 21-Feb-2024, 05:05 PM by Krohsis.) I'm not sure how to feel, and yes this is years later, but I'm now not sure what I should do morally.... Thoughts? There is a very long story behind this. And I agree the FR7 is a better version of the MB Epic. The short story is Richard didn't want to play with the guys who wanted to refine the MB. And Richard felt he had sole rights to this design concept as the MB Epic was his design and the first of this type of frame layout. Richard felt he had a defacto patent. (but Richard never applied for a patent, and it is doubtful it would have been approved) Richard was far from diplomatic about the issue and lost his mind and started threatening people. (If you know Richard, you know how he can be) The dispute continued escalate with the long range/mountain surfing/cinematic group fracturing into 2 sides. One side was lead by Richard, and the other side Jeremy Mariscal. The coup de gras against Richard was the naming of the new frame FR7 (F*^K Richard). Tacky at best.... This is all ancient history in the hobby, and everyone is doing their own thing now. I'm sure Richard still has resentment, but he isn't the force in the hobby he once was. I believe the otherside has changed as well. So I wouldn't let this kerfuffle affect which frame to buy. As for me, I prefer the FR10 and the FR10-G. Much like their little sister, they come with much goodness. My FR10-G. The FR10 has the same layout as the FR7. FR7 and 10 come in a (G) version which are a standard dead cat frame instead of the stepped frame. You know, the history is all just drama and would not bother me. If you like the frame, then buy it. Just my 2 cents worth. I hate the name and the premise so I'm gunna just pass on the fr anything, but I'm having a hard time deciding between the falcon 7 and the falcon rpm frames. Which of these frames would you rather fly and why ? Are there any real advantages to 7.5 over 7 with 2808 motors? RPM Frame : https://www.cncdrones.com/falcon-rpm.html FALCON7: https://www.cncdrones.com/falcon-7-cinem...frame.html • Posts: 640 Threads: 34 Likes Received: 282 in 190 posts Likes Given: 46 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 6 23-Feb-2024, 01:47 PM (This post was last modified: 03-Mar-2024, 08:47 AM by MomoBrut.) This is a slightly more complicated topic than a subjective feeling whether or not I should buy something that has this or that history. Among many other important features of these LR quads, AUW is a key feature. You have to decide what you want it for, what it's supposed to be for. Once the AUW increases, the flight efficiency simply decreases and you can't catch up even with a larger propeller (like 7 versus 7.5 inch prop). I feel that quite a few people talk about this (like JB) and they don't really have any LR quads and they don't even fly them properly and they keep saying that the bigger the quad, the more efficient and it's taken as a paradigm, it's simply not true. E.g. a light 7 inch LR quad that you put a Naked GoPro on will fly faster and longer on a single 6s21700 battery than a slightly larger and heavier quad (like the Falcon RPM) that will carry a GoPro and 2p6s18650. If you put 2p6s21700 in there, the AUW will noticeably increase, the efficiency will decrease and you will find that at the same speed you will last only 3-4 minutes longer than before (comparing to 15-17 minutes with a light 7 inch). The only advantage of a heavier quad is greater resistance to stronger side winds, otherwise I don't see any advantages there and not to mention the exponentially increasing price of components including the need for more larger batteries. So it's not really about the feeling. • Posts: 640 Threads: 34 Likes Received: 282 in 190 posts Likes Given: 46 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 6 • Posts: 435 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 226 in 130 posts Likes Given: 154 Joined: Aug 2019 Reputation: 6 (23-Feb-2024, 01:56 PM)MomoBrut Wrote: And this is the FR7 you hate on my desk and floor. Just for information, I also consider the FR7 to be a heavier LR quad. If I wasn't clear, I apologize. I don't hate the frame itself. The mb epic was an amazing concept and the fr frame takes it and makes it even better. I hate that there's really a frame that says fk someone lol. I hate the naming convention.. • Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 24-Feb-2024, 01:51 AM (This post was last modified: 24-Feb-2024, 01:54 AM by Krohsis.) But the people involved in the naming and development of the FR frame are no longer even involved in the hobby. And really you aren't helping or hurting anyone at the genesis of this conflict, except yourself by cheating you out of an outstanding frame, at least for mid to long range cinematic type of flying. The slightly heavier frame as Momo mention comes with benefits for that type of flying. But we all have to live what we can live with, so you need to do you. Whatever you decide, be sure to entertain us all with your build log. • Posts: 435 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 226 in 130 posts Likes Given: 154 Joined: Aug 2019 Reputation: 6 (24-Feb-2024, 01:51 AM)Krohsis Wrote: I get you dislike of the naming of the frame, and the BS surrounding that.
