121 That is an excellent find!
Good job on the restoration of the case as well.
Dangerous operations.

42 What a beast of a PSU! Is the max current only 500mA?

2 I’ve considered making a DIY from an old CPU. Is it worth my time?

If you spend any amount of time on the bench, it is absolutely worth your time. Power supplies are lovely things.

41 There are other ways to achieve the same. A couple of 12V (leisure or car) batteries (in series) in a box with a charger is a simple one. They can be extended with other means of charging. Hook them to a fuseboard and then run outputs for all the common voltages you use, ideally 1-4S.
In years gone by you could use old computer PSU's to achieve the same. I even have an old 12V bench supply from a CB radio I owned maybe 27 years back. Still works.
The other thing to look into if you are into electronics projects could be a spot welder. Highly useful if you want to make your own battery packs.
If you are really crazy, you can even make a DIY stick/arc welder with car batteries.
